Diamonds are formed some 3.5 billion years, under great heat and pressure, deep inside the earth. The formation of Diamond correlates with the development of our planet, estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. Diamonds were originally used as a tool to carve other gems like Lapis and Carnelian.
