Black diamonds occur in the crudest forms and their physical properties fluctuate from dense to porous. Compared to the other colorless diamonds, black diamonds have scratch marks. The treatments meliorate the geological characteristics of the diamond.
There are three types acknowledged as the “black” diamond: 1. Natural Colored Black Diamonds; 2. Heat-treated Black Diamonds- created under high temperature; 3. Irradiation treated Black Diamonds. The naturally colored ones are very rare; out of 10,000-mined diamonds, only one is a naturally colored black diamond. Moreover, Natural black diamonds have heavy inclusions, while pure black, a less common sort, virtually resembles black onyx. |
